Sean La'Brooy heads the Professional Liability Practice Group. He has been in practice since 2000 and is experienced in acting in matters involving professional (including medical) liability disputes.

When he was at a previous firm, Sean acted for the Singapore Medical Council in disciplinary proceedings conducted under the Medical Registration Act (Cap. 174), and appeals. Sean also served two terms as a member of the Council of the Law Society of Singapore.  

He has handled matters involving litigation in the Courts, international arbitration and mediation. He is also a Senior Teaching Fellow at Singapore Institute of Legal Education (SILE), where he has been a tutor for the Civil Litigation Course since 2007.

In 2004, Sean was featured in the Straits Times as one of the Top 50 young Singaporeans to watch in the future.

Sean is also actively involved in pro bono matters. Sean was chairperson of Project Law Help when it was launched in 2006, and was the chairperson from 2006 to 2009.  Project Law Help is a sub-committee of the Law Society of Singapore which matches non-profit organizations in need of legal services, with volunteer law firms.  

In 2010, Sean helped to set up a pro bono legal clinic at Moulmein Constituency, for needy residents who are unable to pay for legal services. Sean is presently serving a 3rd term as a member of the Moulmein Citizens' Consultative Committee.

He is a recommended lawyer for Dispute Resolution in the Asia Pacific Legal 500 2017 publication.

Examples of cases include:

  • International Arbitration (ARB 138/12/SL)
    Acted for a US company which is the world leader in the discovery and development of olive polyphenols, that have health & wellness, food & beverage, cosmetic and skincare applications, in respect of a dispute involving a Joint Venture Agreement in Malaysia.

  • International Arbitration (ARB 217/12/AL)
    Acted for a Singapore publicly listed company in defending against a claim by US investors in respect of an Equity Line of Credit Agreement, for more than S$10 million.

  • SMC Mediation Case No. 1886 (2077) - 151 of 2013
    Acted as Counsel in a dispute involving 2 companies, which was successfully resolved at mediation. 

  • Gobinathan Devathasan v Singapore Medical Council [2010] 2 SLR 926
    Part of the team that represented the SMC in respect of an appeal brought by a doctor against a decision of the Disciplinary Committee.
